Keith Evans

Keith Evans, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Keith R. Evans has held a number of key executive positions in the compound semiconductor industry which span the supply chain including substrates, epitaxial growth, epitaxial growth equipment, and diode lasers.

Most recently he was Senior VP Business Development and Chief Marketing Officer for Crystal IS Inc. where he launched a Quality Management initiative, initiated multiple collaborative development partnerships, and won key government R&D support, including a recent NIST ATP award.

As VP Advanced Technology for Veeco-St. Paul, he developed and won funding for their new Epitaxial Growth Process Integration Center (PIC). As VP Operations and Advanced Technology for QED he drove record production efficiencies, revenues, and profits and proposed the successful merger between QED and Epitaxial Products International, which resulted in the formation of IQE, the worlds largest compound semiconductor wafer manufacturer.

As a Manager of Crystal Growth at Semiconductor Laser International, he successfully transitioned Air Force patented crystal growth control technology to a commercially viable crystal growth system.

He began his career at US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) where he built a world-class research group and co-authored over 200 publications on compound semiconductor materials and devices.

Drew Hanser

Drew Hanser, Ph.D.
Chief Technical Officer and Vice President of Business Development

Drew Hanser, co-founder of Kyma, has been with the company for more than five years and has extensive experience in bulk and epitaxial crystal growth of GaN-based materials, including development of Kyma's bulk GaN crystal growth processes and MOVPE growth of III-V nitrides at North Carolina State University with Prof. Bob Davis. While at Kyma, he has worked as Senior GaN Engineer and Director of Business Development, then as Director of Research and Development and now as Chief Technical Officer. He has been Principal Investigator on a number of successfully funded Phase I and II SBIRs in GaN materials development and applications of GaN substrates for optoelectronic and microelectronic devices. His current efforts focus on transitioning Kyma's GaN substrate efforts from development to manufacturing. Hanser obtained a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University's Department of Materials Science and Engineering and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla in Ceramic Engineering. He has over 20 publications and is co-inventor on two patents.

Ed Preble

Ed Preble, Ph.D.
Chief Operations Officer

Dr. Ed Preble's responsibilities include all aspects of Kyma's operations, particularly process development, quality management, and control monitoring of Kyma's crystal growth processes. Ed has a very strong background in epitaxial and bulk crystal growth and he also has extensive experience in characterization of materials in the nitride semiconductor space. Ed received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering under professor Bob Davis at North Carolina State University and has authored 28 journal articles.
